Grayson Perry Has Seen the Future

Grayson Perry heads for California on a mission to understand how Silicon Valley's booming tech industries are likely to shape the human future. His two-part journey begins in the Bay Area where he is assisted by an increasingly chummy chatbot. He meets everyone from leading players in the industry to idealistic young start-up founders, as well as ordinary people who are adopting the latest innovations and alarmed critics of the direction AI is taking the world.

Grayson concludes his tour of Silicon Valley by considering the motivations of the men behind the technology, such as Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos - and how their values might be challenged. He meets a scientist working on empathetic robots which offer a more human-centric alternative to the priorities of the industry and encounters one of the key players in AI, Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark, grappling with the possibility that AI could be shaped in such a way to offer a more optimistic future.
