AFI Life Achievement Award

An Emmy® winner, Grammy® winner, Golden Globe winner, Academy Award® nominee and box office superstar, Eddie Murphy is a legendary artist whose iconic performances have defined American culture, brought joy to audiences around the world and influenced generations of artists.Murphy began his career at age 17 performing stand-up in New York and quickly became known for his celebrity impressions and on-stage charisma. Just a few short years later, he landed a spot on Ssturday Night Live (SNL) at age 19, making him the youngest cast member at the time. His bold comedic persona took late-night television by storm and his characters quickly became fan favorites. During his tenure, Murphy made history as the first person to host while still a cast member, garnered three Emmy® nominations and launched his big-screen career. 

The AFI Board of Trustees announced that Francis Ford Coppola will be the 50th recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award, America's highest honor for a career in film. The award will be presented to Coppola at a Gala Tribute at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Dreamer, maverick, pioneer and one of the most acclaimed filmmakers of our time, Francis Ford Coppola is a six-time Academy Award®-winning director, writer and producer of some of the most influential and culturally significant films of all time, including The Godfather trilogy, The Conversation, Apocalypse Now, The Outsiders, Bram Stoker's Dracula and his latest epic, Megalopolis.

The award will be presented to Nicole Kidman at a Gala Tribute at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.  

Julie Andrews will be the recipient of the 48th AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film. Long considered one of the preeminent annual events for the entertainment and arts community, the AFI Life Achievement Award is a singular distinction bestowed upon artists "whose work has stood the test of time."

TNT presents the American Film Institute's 45th AFI Life Achievement Award tribute to Diane Keaton, the multifaceted actor, director, producer, author, real estate developer and photographer whose career spans five decades and includes more than 80 diverse credits. Keaton will be joined by hundreds of celebrities as they salute the Oscar-winning actress and look back on her extraordinary career.

Steven Spielberg will present John Williams with the American Film Institute's (AFI) 44th Life Achievement Award. This marks the first time in AFI history that America's highest honor for a career in film will be bestowed upon a composer.
