Martin Paterson from the Huddersfield animal hospital heads into war-torn Ukraine, travelling over 1000 miles in an ambulance loaded with medical supplies. And while he's briefly switched to helping people, he also visits a homeless animal shelter to see the effects the war is having on the country's pets. Back in Thirsk, Julian Norton's treating a rescue dog called Woody, who has a worrying tumour in a very delicate spot, which might make it tricky to remove. Peter Wright heads to visit his old farmer friend's sheep, who has a huge lump on her jaw. Matt Smith's patient at a local college is a duck with penis problems - and amputation might the only option. 

Julian Norton visits a farm on a historic estate in Leeds to help Unicorn, a goat with one horn. Then he has to take the bull by the horns and deal with their Shetland bull. Peter Wright operates on 11-year old Jack Russell Basil, who's the customers' favourite at his owner's hair salon. Basil has a serious-looking eye problem and, if Peter can perform successful surgery, there might just be a haircut in it for him!

Fearing Fred's bladder may already be ruptured, the team head into theatre to try and save him.

Meanwhile, Peter has a more pleasant cow conundrum — working out how many cows are pregnant thanks to big bull Cyril. And he shows graduate vet Hannah the ropes. Julian tries to conquer his fears when nurse Natalie brings in some of her exotic pets. Unlike his colleagues, he isn't keen on getting close to the snakes or the tarantula. And Matt's with some rhinos — the Leeds Rhinos rugby league team! His dad Alan played professionally for Leeds and Great Britain, and they take a trip to Headingley to watch a match, while comparing this most physical of sports to Matt tackling sheep and cows.

Peter has to deal with the most overgrown tortoise beak he has ever seen, and Julian treats a Vizsla puppy that has eaten a washing up-sponge for the second time. Meanwhile, David rushes out to a local farm where a ewe has suffered an unusual, life-threatening prolapse.

A farmer rushes in a struggling pregnant sheep who belongs to his two-year-old son, and Julian and Anne head to Jacki's alpaca farm to deal with Ebony's worrying lump on her lip. Springer Spaniel Poppy has an aggressive cancer, so Shona and Martin are facing complex surgery to remove the tumour from inside her rib cage.

Two brothers are worried about their cow, which is foaming at the mouth, and ask for Peter's help to get to the bottom of the issue. There's a glimpse of what lockdown life was like for Steve and Jean, whose daughter Sarah kept a video diary and, with things returning to normal, Peter returns to the Greens' farm, where there's now lots of veterinary work to do.

Julian comes to the aid of a cow that is unable to stand up due to a condition called milk fever, caused by calcium deficiency. One false move in the treatment could put the animal's life in danger. Peter works to save the life of a three-week-old kitten with pneumonia. A Chihuahua has a worrying lump that requires surgery, a goose acquires a mating injury from an overenthusiastic partner, and a horse is not going to sit back and allow itself to be castrated.

A special episode to mark International Dog Day, in which Julian faces the challenge of having to perform surgery on his own four-legged friend Emmy - who is not too keen on needles. It's Christmas in Thirsk, but the vets cannot join in the celebrations until they have tended to their flock. A cow has collapsed on Chris's farm leading Peter to fear the worst, Barney the spaniel may have to have a leg amputated and a piglet named Tiny Tim needs some urgent care. When things settle down, Peter and Julian have the honour of switching on Thirsk's Christmas lights.
