Diogo is unjustly separated from his parents, and as he grows up, he decides to dig up the past to find the person responsible for their deaths. Amelia never loses faith that Diogo will be happy wherever he may be.

Rodrigo discovers that the woman whose life he saved is Amelia, his childhood love, and he regrets his decision to have stayed in the capital. Amelia faces a difficult diagnosis that could change Martín's life.

Rodrigo manages to get close to Amelia and confesses what he feels for her. Iván overhears them and decides to investigate Rodrigo's past to drive him away from his wife. Arminda may discover Rodrigo's secret, and Eduarda suspects she is being investigated by the police.

Rodrigo suspects that what Amelia feels for Iván isn't love, but something else, and he tries to convince her to confess her true feelings. Eduarda discovers that Rodrigo's "father" is the agent who investigated Diogo's disappearance.

Thanks to Rodrigo's intervention, Francisco begins to doubt Eduarda's word, prompting her to investigate the truth behind her mother-in-law's death. Iván threatens Amelia with having Alfonso imprisoned if she goes through with her decision to divorce him.

Rodrigo confesses his feelings for Amelia, and she realizes that love never truly existed in her marriage. Francisco confronts Eduarda after uncovering more lies about her fortune, forcing her to tell the truth.

A stranger shows up at "La Fortuna" claiming to be Diogo. Francisco is disappointed in Eduarda when he learns that she bought the hacienda with dirty money, and Amelia ends up on a date with Rodrigo.

Amelia runs to reunite with Diogo and invites him to return to "La Fortuna." Rodrigo is investigated by the police because of Iván, and Eduarda's marriage falls apart behind her back.

The arrival of "Diogo" makes Rodrigo feel pushed out of Amelia's life and even sparks jealousy in him. Rodrigo discovers a new accomplice in Eduarda's business dealings.

"Diogo" demands to be compensated for the pain he suffered in his childhood and for having lost the hacienda. Amelia realizes that "Diogo" doesn't remember important details of his life, and Rodrigo is arrested over Iván's accident.

Héctor finds himself forced to reveal to Eduarda that "Diogo" is an impostor; Amelia finds out and suffers more than she expected. Francisco demands that Iván leave "La Fortuna" to protect Amelia.

Rodrigo sees Amelia's separation as an opportunity to be with her, but he knows their love can't happen while he remains determined to expose Eduarda. Iván shows Amelia that he's willing to change for her, and Eduarda has her own sister sent to prison.

Rodrigo discovers that Amelia's accident was intentional. Francisco meets with Samuel to put an end to his threats; Rodrigo saves his life, but ends up being taken away by force.

Francisco forces Eduarda to confess that she has been using the foundation's money to pay her extortionists. Disappointed, Amelia decides to revoke Eduarda's access to the company's accounts.

Eduarda is forced to hand over the presidency of the company and the foundation to Amelia, but she plots an attack against her family to regain power. Francisco decides to divorce Eduarda, which encourages Amelia to do the same in her own marriage.

Amelia warns Martín that she is going to divorce Iván, and Rodrigo takes advantage of his closeness to help him process the news. Héctor discovers that Perpetua is Eduarda's accomplice.

Jorge Nieto returns to Tierra de Agua to collect Eduarda's debt and threatens Rodrigo with exposing him unless he leaves him alone during his stay. Iván gives Martín new hope that he might be able to walk again.

Alfonso falls seriously ill and must undergo emergency surgery, but before being taken into the operating room, he confesses his crime to Arminda and Norberto. Rodrigo finds out that Iván blackmailed Amelia by threatening to report Alfonso.

Iván cooperates with the authorities to ensure that Alfonso is the only one who has to pay for Ray's death. Rodrigo uncovers Héctor's secret, and "Felipe" comes up with a plan to escape his gang for good.

Jorge decides to stay in the town indefinitely to wait for Eduarda to receive a generous donation so they can run away together. Héctor discovers that Eduarda was Clemente's lover and begins to suspect that Amelia is Rodrigo's sister.

Eduarda pressures Iván to pay off the extortionists' debt, and Rodrigo offers to help him—but Iván won't allow him to once again take the credit as the family's hero.

Thanks to Rodrigo's help, Martín commits to doing whatever it takes to walk again. Jorge begins to suspect that Amelia is the product of his love affair with Eduarda, and Tina may be able to save the "Tropicaloso."

Rodrigo confesses to Arminda that he is Diogo Covarrubias and feels an instant sense of relief at having someone with whom to share his pain. Martín's surgery is successful, and he may soon regain his mobility.

Jorge wakes up from his coma and agrees to testify against Eduarda in exchange for saving his life. Alfonso is declared innocent of Ray's death, and Nubia could become a famous singer.

Rodrigo manages to prove Alfonso's innocence. Eduarda does not approve of the Barrientos family returning to "La Fortuna," but Arminda assures her that she will soon have to answer for her crimes, and Alfonso suspects that Iván is the true culprit behind Ray's death.

Amelia decides to investigate whether Jorge is her biological father or not. Roseta discovers that she is pregnant, and Rodrigo welcomes his ex-girlfriend, Olga, into his home.

Rodrigo confirms that Amelia is not his half-sister and asks her for a new chance at love; Iván tries to ruin their happiness. Eduarda decides to invite Rodrigo into her organization.

Arminda discovers that Amelia and Rodrigo are dating and doesn't hesitate to tell each of them what she thinks about it. Nubia sees her dreams shattered after suffering Fonseca's attack, and Martín meets his first love.

Martín finds out that Amelia is dating Rodrigo and blames her for divorcing Iván. Rodrigo becomes Gina's legal guardian, and Eduarda plans to get rid of Roseta's child.

Amelia confronts Rodrigo for having eliminated Jorge and regrets falling in love with him; Olga sees the perfect opportunity to win back Rodrigo's love. Xanat feels jealous when she sees Alfonso's behavior toward Candy.

Concerned about Héctor's condition, Iván decides to review his medical records and realizes that Rodrigo cannot be his son. Alfonso proposes to Xanat, but Andrés opposes the union.

Iván realizes there are no photos of his mother while she was pregnant and becomes obsessed until he uncovers the terrible secret Tomás hid from him his entire life. Rodrigo finds a new clue to uncover Eduarda's real business.

Amelia can't believe that while she was tirelessly searching for Diogo, she ended up marrying his brother. Rodrigo regrets loving Amelia, and Eduarda fears that Iván intends to claim "La Fortuna."

Martín confronts Tomás for having lied to his father and, upon discovering his motives, regrets having rejected Amelia. Rodrigo investigates his brother's adoption, and Eduarda may be starting to feel something for him.

Iván uncovers a mystery surrounding Teresa's death. Rodrigo confesses to Eduarda that he loves her, and she allows him to return to work by her side.

Eduarda takes Rodrigo to a hotel to indulge their passion, and he tries to get her drunk to make her confess her crimes. Despite the obstacles against them, Alfonso and Xanat manage to make it to the altar, and Amelia feels jealous when she sees her mother with Rodrigo.

Eduarda is determined to fulfill her fantasy of seducing Rodrigo, no matter the obstacles that stand in her way. Perpetua once again blackmails Eduarda, threatening to reveal her secret unless she gives her a position in her future government.
