Virginia works as a governess in Carlos Alberto Junquera's home just to be close to him, but her dream of becoming part of the family is interrupted when Anabella enters their lives.

Rodrigo confesses to Virginia that his family is in ruins. He asks Virginia to marry him so that, when he dies, she will take care of his children.

Alirio is upset when he learns that Carlos Alberto plans to ask for Anabella's hand in marriage. Rodrigo prepares a special dinner to announce to his children that Virginia will be in charge of running the household.

Rodrigo and Virginia get married in secret. Danilo carries out his plans to win Virginia over. He offers her a job working for him.

Raquel is upset to see that Virginia has changed the house rules. Carlos Alberto suspects that Rodrigo's financial situation is getting worse and worse. Rodrigo sends a farewell letter to his children.

Carlos Alberto tells Virginia that Juvencio said Alirio stole the company from Rodrigo. Raquel sets a trap for Virginia so that Danilo will think she is being unfaithful. Danilo reproaches Virginia for Humberto trying to win her over.

Danilo apologizes to Virginia for having doubted her. Lupita finds out that Junior had a girlfriend and was going to marry her.

Violeta falls down the stairs and is left unconscious on the floor. Alirio proposes that Carlos Alberto manage the Veracruz factory to prevent him from marrying Anabella. Father Chema runs into Rodrigo and is shocked to see that he is alive.

Sagrario faints when she sees Rodrigo back home. Santiago gives Vanessa beautiful jewelry to win her over. Virginia runs into Rodrigo after all the time she believed he was dead.

Rodrigo confesses to Virginia that he stole the inheritance her father left her. Virginia decides to leave the house, but Sagrario convinces her to stay. Raquel confesses to Maximiliana that she is in love with Danilo.

Raquel is determined to find Carlos Alberto's letter so she can show it to Danilo and drive him away from Virginia. Elena tells Maximiliana that Rodrigo is alive, but she doesn't believe her.

Carlos Alberto tells Virginia that his relationship with Vanessa has improved and that they are now friends. Maximiliana and Alirio are determined to do whatever it takes to achieve their goal.

Anabella is taken to the hospital in critical condition due to the terrible accident she suffered with Carlos Alberto. Vanessa continues using Santiago to get money and buy everything she wants.

Violeta tells Carlos Alberto that Virginia has a lover, not knowing that the man who was in her room is actually Rodrigo.

Virginia tells Danilo that she will leave the factory because her father fired her. Maricruz tells Danilo that she knows many things about Maximiliana, and that's why she was sent to a convent—to keep her away from everyone.

Raquel blames Virginia for Rodrigo's death. Carlos Alberto comes up with a plan to uncover Rodrigo's real killer. Rodrigo's family says their final goodbye to him at his funeral.

Danilo accuses Carlos Alberto of having killed Rodrigo. Memito is saddened to learn that Rodrigo will never return to his side. Carlos Alberto is arrested by the police as the main suspect in Rogelio's death.

Anabella prepares everything for her facial surgery. Virginia hands over to the police the weapon that was used to kill Rodrigo. Danilo tries to convince Virginia that Carlos Alberto is responsible for Rodrigo's death.

The inspector insists that Carlos Alberto is Rodrigo's killer. Santiago promises Vanessa that he will divorce his wife so he can be with her.

Danilo makes Virginia believe that Carlos Alberto is a murderer. Carlos Alberto asks Anabella to help him get out of jail. Virginia agrees to marry Danilo.

Lupita tells Junior that she is pregnant, but he refuses to marry her. Virginia tells Carlos Alberto that he cannot return home because his siblings will not accept him there.

Elena tries to kill Virginia with a knife, but Virginia confesses that she is her daughter. Virginia is determined to find out whether Elena is truly her mother. Danilo pressures Virginia to marry him as soon as possible.

Víctor asks Sagrario to tell Junior that he is his father. Danilo tells Virginia that he wants to have a child with her, even though she knows she doesn't love him and doesn't want to be intimate with him.

Carlos Alberto confesses to Juvencio the truth about Danilo and Aracely. Aracely tells Federico that she is married to Danilo. Virginia tells Carlos Alberto that her marriage will be annulled very soon.

Violeta cries after finding out that Johnny married another woman. Anabella asks Virginia not to interfere in her marriage to Carlos Alberto. Virginia tells Carlos Alberto that they cannot be together because of the baby Anabella is expecting.

Anabella makes Carlos Alberto believe that Danilo was the one who hid Virginia. Aldo lies to Maricruz by telling her that he has a girlfriend. Virginia adopts a dog to be her companion. Carlos Alberto visits Virginia to reproach her for her actions.

Eduardo tells Carlos Alberto that he is in love with Vanessa. Elena reports Danilo as Raquel's killer. Maximiliana learns that Elena and Arnulfo reported Danilo. Danilo is arrested as the prime suspect in Raquel's murder.

Vanessa reproaches Carlos Alberto for not supporting her when she needed him. Maximiliana finds out that Danilo confessed to being guilty of Raquel's death. Vanessa is released from prison and reunites with Elena to begin a new life.

Carlos Alberto tells Vanessa that he is still in love with her. Silvana reproaches Carlos Alberto for not telling Vanessa the truth about his house. Norma confesses to Vanessa that Eduardo is about to die and asks her to marry him.

Vanessa tells Eduardo that she will marry him. Danilo begins to have hallucinations of Raquel. Sagrario tells Vanessa that Carlos Alberto is going to marry Silvana. Eduardo learns that he has little time left to live.

Violeta feels lost and asks Carlos Alberto for help. The small plane Carlos Alberto is traveling in crashes, and he is presumed dead. Danilo thinks he sees Raquel in his cell and loses his sanity.

Vanessa and the Junquera siblings grieve over Carlos Alberto's death, unaware that he is actually alive. Vanessa decides to marry Eduardo to make him happy during the final days of his life.
