A fishing cat is at large in the game preserve. The rare animal brings an influx of government officials.
An elephant is wounded and runs amok. Bergen sets out to trap it, although he knows he may have to shoot it.
Toomai discovers that a visiting photographer (John Gregg) on the Reserve is actually a poacher.
Two elderly sisters arrive at Mr. Padam's estates where many years earlier their father had been District Commissioner in the days when India was part of the British Empire.
Toomai finds his loyalties are divided. He finds Jane Shorter, a pretty young schoolgirl who visits the reserve, very attractive and he wants to help make her stay very happy.
Workers on the Reserve are terrified by a weird howling noise coming from the ravine. They believe it to be the legendary dogs of Death, so Toomai sets out to investigate.
