She transitioned to American television, starring as Faye Chamberlain in The CW's The Secret Circle before taking on her most prominent role. Tonkin is widely known for her extensive portrayal of Hayley Marshall across 94 episodes of The Vampire Diaries and its spin-off The Originals, later appearing in HBO's Westworld and the Australian series Bloom.
